Madison Square Park Celebrates Flatiron Chefs

MANHATTAN — A celebration of food around Madison Square Park — once a no-man's land for eating and now packed with always crowded venues such as Eataly and Shake Shack — is being planned for next week.

Celebrate Flatiron Chefs, organized for Tuesday by the park's conservancy, is bringing together such James Beard Award-winners as Dan Kluger from ABC Kitchen, pastry chef Angela Pinkerton of Eleven Madison Park and Tom Colicchio of craftbar.

General admission tickets range from $160 to $260.

Even though only "Flatiron" is used in the event's name, it includes the area north of the park around 23rd and 30th streets — recently named "NoMad."

"Looking for proof that the Flatiron/NoMad area is a culinary hotspot?" the conservancy asks in a promo for the event.

So far, the heart of this so-called NoMad neighborhood is the uber-hip Ace Hotel, at 20 West 29th St.

April Bloomfield, the chef from the hotel's Breslin Bar and Dining Room, will be among the 26 restaurants participating on Tuesday.

The NoMad name may get a boost when another hotel by Ace's developer Andrew Zobler opens this year at 28th Street and Broadway, called the NoMad Hotel.

The landmark 1900 French Renaissance building will also house various lounges and restaurants to be run by Daniel Humm, the award-winning executive chef and manager behind Eleven Madison Park.

Other newcomers appearing at this year's Celebrate Flatiron event include Peter Oleyer of Calexico, which has a cart on 24th and Broadway; Nicholas Anderer of Danny Meyer's Maialino overlooking Gramercy Park; and Vikas Khanna of Junoon at 27 West 24th St.

Celebrate Flatiron Chefs at Madison Square Park: Tickets are $260 for early admission at 5:30 p.m., or $160 for general entry at 6:30 p.m. Purchase tickets at madisonsquarepark.org or by calling 212-538-0018.
