MANHATTAN—  The Reel Harlem: 10th Annual Historic Harlem Parks Film Festival kicks off Wednesday night in Marcus Garvey Park.

The outdoor film series will take place on Wednesday and Thursday nights throughout July, with live musical performances preceding the screenings.

Wednesday's festivities will feature a DJ set by Loira Limbal with a screening of Charlie Ahearn's film, "Jamel Shabazz: Street Photographer," to follow.

The film, which was released earlier this year, profiles Jamel Shabazz, a New York City street photographer who helped document the birth of hip-hop.

The festival continues at Marcus Garvey Park Thursday with a live performance by the Calypso group Major Damage and a screening of "Calypso Dreams," about musicians in Trinidad and Tobago.

The festival will change locations each week, hosting screenings at Jackie Robinson Park, St. Nicholas Park and West Harlem Piers Park.

Admission is free to the public. Musical performances are set to begin at 7 p.m., with screenings to follow at 8:30 p.m.
