CENTRAL PARK — Beyonce thanked her fans for waiting for up to a day to see the mega-star perform a free concert Friday in Central Park.
"I know that a lot of these fans have been waiting here since yesterday, thank y'all so much," said the the mega star, who took the stage in a yellow crocheted fringe mini-dress, blonde curly hairdo and metallic heels.
Beyonce performed her newest hit, "Run the World (Girls)," Single Ladies, and other hit songs as part of the Good Morning America Summer Concert Series.
The concert comes a week after Beyonce released her fourth album, simply titled "4."
"It's just a number that keeps coming around," she told Good Morning America's Robin Roberts, "My birthday's on the 4th," as are many of the birthdays of her friends and family.
Beyonce said she'd "never [performed] here in Central Park. I feel so, so good."
Fans were feeling good too — despite some pushing and shoving among the crowds waiting to get inside Rumsey Playfield.
Some fans had to be chastised by police for surging toward the front, NY1 reported.
"Everybody was sitting down, thinking that we'd have to wait until 6 [a.m. to get inside.] Then somoene told the crowd to stand up, and people just started rushing towards the front," said said Lee Works, 21, who said he was separated from his friends when the crowd surged toward the front Friday morning.
"The whole angry mob thing happened, and they got pushed up. I lost them."
"People were getting crazy because it was Beyonce, so I understand that. The ironic part is that I'm a bigger Beyonce fan than both of them combined," Works added.
"I think Beyonce fans need to simmer down," said Ngozi Robinson, 18, "There's no need for all the hostility."
"There was a lot of pushing," said Magenta Jones, 17, of New Jersey.
"People were so jumpy about getting cut, there were a lot of dirty looks," added Justin Roland, 20, of the West Village.
Fans said there were thousands of people already in line before dawn on Friday.
"I could have caught a cab to get to the end of the line, that's how long it was," said Shavonne Fraizer, 18, who's visiting from California.
Fraizer said it took her 20 minutes just to walk from the Rumsey Playfield entrance at 72th street, where the 16-time Grammy winner peformed for a half hour Friday morning, to the end of the line.
"People keep jumping the fence and getting sent back," she said, "That's why the line is moving because so many people have jumped the fence and gotten sent back."
15-year-old fan Praha, of Queens, said there were thousands of people already there when she and her friends arrived at 5 a.m. Friday.
"I was kind of happy to see all the people, we're like a community, all of us New Yorkers coming together," Praha said. "We were recruiting all of these people to come with us on the subway, we were like, 'Wanna come to see Beyonce'? There were so many people we lost track of them."
Beyonce also caused quite a stir at the East Harlem Target on Thursday when she surprised a group of children who were performing a dance routine to her song "Countdown."
The 29-year old singer has attracted a massive fan base after winning 16 grammies and topping the charts with nine number-one songs, such as "Crazy in Love."
Lady Gaga kicked off the free concert series at the end of May when she whizzed onto stage by zipline. Pop sensations Jennifer Hudson, Mary G. Blige and Selena Gomez will also headline the series, which continues throughout the summer until Sep. 2.
