GREENWICH VILLAGE — The Christopher Street bartender and singer who was beaten inside a New Jersey PATH train station on his commute home June 10 says he's hopeful that police will find his attackers.

Michael Dionne, 44, who works at the Duplex bar and cabaret on Christopher Street at Seventh Avenue South said a Port Authority police department detective called him Thursday and asked if he thought he could identify a suspect without the long black wig he wore during the attack.

Prior to the call, Dionne had been frustrated that nearly two weeks after he was attacked, his calls and visits to the PAPD had gone unreturned.

"The police never, ever called me before [Thursday]," he said.

"I'm crossing my fingers that they'll say, 'Why don't you come and look at a lineup?' "

When the detective who called Dionne Thursday asked if he would press charges, he said, "Absolutely."

However, the detective only mentioned two possible suspects, though he says at least four men jumped him and left him with a broken nose and cuts and bruises on his face and arms.

"Even if they just catch two of them, that's great," Dionne said. "It gives me hope."

The PAPD declined comment because the investigation is ongoing, a spokesman said Friday evening.
