MANHATTAN — A Brooklyn man was shot to death on the Lower East Side early Tuesday morning, police said.

Jonathon Alston, 23, of Red Hook, Brooklyn, was found outside Mini Munchies Pizzeria, at 85 Pitt St. near Rivington Street, with a gunshot wound to the head at about 12:30 a.m., according to the NYPD.

He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Julian Polanco, 39, who was working at the Estevez Supermarket next door to the pizzeria at the time of incident, described hearing the gunshots.

"Boom-boom-boom-boom," he said. "I was scared. I got down on the floor."

"There was no screaming or anything," added Gina Rosich, who lives nearby and also said she heard the shots.

"It was five or six shots in rapid succession. You can still see the blood."

Police have ruled the incident a homicide, but no arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.

Last October, three people were shot and wounded on Stanton Street only a couple blocks away.
