MANHATTAN - A forceful storm swept through Manhattan Friday afternoon, lighting up the sky with lightning cracks and sending pedestrians rushing under awnings and into coffee shops for shelter.
The hail, thunder, lightning and torrential rain ceased temporarily but the National Weather Service predicts that showers will continue through the evening, including some heavy rain and frequent lightning.
By 10 p.m. the rain is expected to dissipate, with a low of 67 degrees Friday night.
Saturday the heat and sun will return, with a high of 87 degrees.
