MANHATTAN - It's case closed for Osama bin Laden.

A Manhattan federal judge officially dismissed the African embassy bombing case Friday against the slain terror leader.

The move, at the request of the US Attorney's Office, is the latest chapter in a story of terror and destruction that stretched decades, from the 1998 bombings to the 9/11 attacks and their aftermath.

Bin Laden, who had a slew of aliases, was first indicted in federal court in 1998 for the destruction of the embassies in Tanzania and Kenya that left 224 dead.

The prosecutor's office then filed a series of superseding indictments, hitting the terror boss with a laundry list of counts including murder.

Bin Laden was killed on May 1 during a raid by US forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Because of his death, the US Attorney's office moved to close the case Thursday.

Judge Lewis Kaplan signed the paperwork Friday.
