EAST VILLAGE — Life in the East Village is about to get a little sweeter with the International House of Pancakes expected to open on East 14th Street.

A "coming soon" sign recently appeared on 235 E. 14th St., between Second and Third avenues, telling people where to apply for jobs at the breakfast palace.

In a June 9 posting on Craigslist, the flapjack chain said that it is looking for "experienced line cooks" for its newest location in Manhattan.

But in a provision that might be tough for some, the online ad says that candidates cannot have "facial piercings or tatoos visible in a short sleeve uniform."

The move left a bitter taste in the mouths of some.

"Yikes," tweeted Christian Del Moral, in reponse to a post on the blog EV Grieve.

And Cheryl Pierce tweeted "God help EVillage."

The new restaurant would be the second IHOP location in the city. There is already one on West 135th Street and Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Boulevard, and the chain plans to add another location in Harlem by the end of the year.

The new IHOP locations in Manhattan are part of the chain's plan to aggressively expand in the New York metropolitan area, with 24 new projected restaurants, including a plan for an IHOP in Times Square.

The new "coming soon" banner is accompanied by a sign inviting job seekers to apply for positions in person at 79 John St. starting Wednesday.

Another sign advertises applications at ihopnyc.com. The website was not functional on Sunday.

IHOP could not be immediately reached for comment.
