LOWER MANHATTAN - Car 54, where are you? Downtown, of course.

Toody and Muldoon's famed squad car was on patrol at the 11th annual New York City Police Museum Car Show Saturday along with 26 other classic cruisers.

The cars, all privately owned, were on loan to the Police Museum, at 100 Old Slip, for one day and will appear at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum at Pier 86, near 46th Street, on Sunday.

Most of the cars used to belong to the NYPD and other local departments, while some were from as far away as Florida and California.  Also featured were rides from TV shows "1-Adam-12," "Car 54 Where Are You?," and "The Dukes of Hazzard," including Car 54 and the "General Lee."

"There are a lot of [car] enthusiasts within the [police] department," said Elana Hart, manager of education at the Police Museum.  "And there are plenty of people who love to see vintage police cars."

One such admirer was vacationing police officer Remy Masson, from Nancy, France, who came upon the car show by accident while walking downtown.

"I am very interested in these cars because I'm a police officer, myself," said Masson.

"I have a little bit of interest [in the cars], especially the ones from the old TV shows," said Richard Lapidus, who works at a nearby law firm.  "I'm amazed at the condition of these cars."

The annual car show is important because "the cars are part of police history," said Hart.
