LOWER MANHATTAN - A woman was sexually assaulted by a stranger as she walked down a Financial District street early Wednesday morning.

The victim, 23, was walking at Fulton and Cliff streets around 2:45 a.m. when the suspect approached her from behind, police said.

On surveillance video released by cops, the victim, who had just left a nearby train station, can be seen walking down the street holding a handbag as the suspect follows close by.

They both disappear out of view and the thug, described as 5-foot-6, 140 pounds and 28-32 years old, allegedly sexually assaulted her.

He can then be seen coming back into view on the tape and starting to run.

The victim was treated and released from an area hospital.
