UPPER EAST SIDE — Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting incident that sent a stray bullet into the window of a swanky Upper East Side residental building across from Central Park Sunday night.
Police said a stray bullet went flying across Fifth Avenue between 96th and 97th streets around 7:00 pm Sunday, but no one was injured. The bullet hit a 2nd-floor window of a residential building at 1150 Fifth Ave, where a hole in an apartment window was visible Monday morning.
"Around 6:30 or so I opened the window and heard 'bam bam bam'," said a woman in her 40s living in the neighborhood, who declined to give her name for fear of retaliation.
Another neighbor, Stan Krajewski, 56, said he saw six police vans near East Meadow as he took a walk in the morning.
"It’s really a rarity here. Usually it’s a quiet neighborhood," said Krajewski, who moved to the area four years ago. Another resident who has lived in the area for 16 years said he'd never experienced a shooting in the area before.
Some residents have expressed concerns over the rise of violence and robberies in the Upper East Side recently.
