MANHATTAN — Anthropologie is coming the Upper East Side, in the home of a former cinema.

The chic women's clothes shop is set to open in the 14,564-square-foot space at 1230 Third Ave. near E. 71st Street by the holiday season, according to Robert K. Futterman & Associates, which arranged the lease.

The space housed the old Loews Tower East movie house.

Locals had told DNAinfo in January that Urban Oufitters was interested, which turned out to be correct, in a way. Anthropologie is owned by Urban Outfitters.

It will be Anthropologie's fifth Manhattan location.

"Anthropologie is known for choosing unique spaces that also offer great visibility to shoppers," RKF's managing director Beth Rosen said in a statement.

The single-screen movie theater that the shop will replaced was not as grand as the old Loews 72nd Street Theater it replaced, but it was beloved by locals.

It played a mix of art house and mainstream movies. The old theater was featured on the cover of Tony Bennett's "Love Story" album nearly 40 years ago, when it was playing the famous Ali McGraw movie of the same name.

The crooner is seen posing in a line stretching down the block with the theater's marquee in the background.

This Third Avenue corridor is already home to other well known national stores, including True Religion, Olive & Bette’s, lululemon athletica, Molton Brown, American Apparel, and Lucky Brand.
