LOWER EAST SIDE — A woman was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with head injuries after being hit by rotten wood falling from scaffolding on the Lower East Side Thursday.
The incident happened just after 8:30 a.m. at 183 East Broadway, at Jefferson Street, the FDNY said.
A Buildings Department official said the wood had deteriorated and was blown off the structure by wind.
A man who said he worked for the scaffolder said it had been up for more than three years.
He said managers had ordered the scaffolding removed Thursday after the accident.
The FDNY was unable to say how serious the woman's injuries are.
