DOWNTOWN —Police released a surveillance photo Wednesday of a suspect in a string of break-ins at Financial District businesses in recent weeks.

The burglar used a sledgehammer and crowbar to break through the walls of businesses and loot cash in the past six weeks, cops at the First Precinct said.

Eight establishments have already been struck in a crime spree that has left business owners in the neighborhood jittery.

In one break-in, the suspect allegedly entered a residential building then cut a hole in the wall to get into a neighboring restaurant.

Police earlier said they believed there were two suspects involved in the spree.

The first break-in took place April 3 at Dor L'Dor on Nassau Street. In following weeks, the thief hit Lenny's Restaurant on John Street, the Full Shilling on Pearl Street, Ancora Ristorante on Stone Street, and Crepes Du Nord on South William Street.

The cash register at Ancora Ristorante is dented where the thieves smashed it to grab the cash inside.
