LOWER EAST SIDE — Broome Street ain't Bryant Park, but it will look a little like fashion week on the Lower East Side Saturday afternoon.

Fashion Forward will feature male and female models promenading down  Broome Street showing off outfits from local labels like By Robert James, Any Old Iron and James Coviello.

"A lot of one-of-a-kind boutiques and designers have moved into the area," said Tim Lemberger, the Lower East Side Business District's director of marketing. "It's starting to become a more upscale area in terms of shopping."

Clothiers in the neighborhood jumped at the chance to show off their wares downtown.

Organizers say there will be a distinctly Lower East Side style to the event.

"Fashion Week is far away from the Lower East Side," said Lemberger, who's helped organize runway shows in the past. "We want to establish the Lower East Side as a place where fashion forward people can come, but not necessarily have it be like everything else."

The event takes place on Broome Street, between Orchard and Ludlow streets, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sat., May 21.
