MANHATTAN — Meatopia, the carnivorous food festival that drew thousands of meat-eaters to Governors Island last July, is moving to the Brooklyn waterfront.
The beefy fest, which features cuisine from some of the city's top chefs, turned into one of the most popular events of Governors Island's inaugural summer season last year.
A newly-uploaded logo on the Meatopia website Thursday revealed that the event will move to Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
While Pier 5 does not officially open to the public until 2012, Meatopia has been given permission to use the "raw pier deck" for the event, to be held July 23, 2010, Brooklyn Bridge Park Project Manager Leigh Trucks said.
Pre-sale tickets for Meatopia sold out for $98 a pop. Regular tickets will go on sale May 25, according to the Meatopia website.
Meatopia began as an annual birthday celebration for founder and James Beard Award-winning food writer Josh Ozersky. It was held for six summers as a private event at Water Taxi Beach.
Ozersky teamed up with Jimmy's 43 owner Jimmy Carbone to open the event to the public last year.
While Carbone is not involved with Meatopia 2011, he will host an event called Cookout NYC on Governors Island July 10.
Tickets for that event, which will feature a burger cook off and a kimchi eating contest, are available for $10.
