MURRAY HILL — A man was hospitalized with breathing trouble after a fire broke out in a Murray Hill apartment Wednesday, FDNY officials said.

The unidentified man managed to stagger out of the 234 East 24th St., building before emergency responders treated him, the FDNY said.

He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The blaze damaged a third floor apartment in the 7-story residential building, an FDNY official said. It is unclear if the injured man was inside the apartment at the time of the fire.

The fire broke out at 11:34 a.m., and was under control 17 minutes later, the FDNY said. Firefighters at the scene thought the fire may have been caused by an electrical problem, but the cause remained under investigation.
