EAST VILLAGE — Drinkers in an East Village hangout have something special to toast — their very own beer.

Third Avenue brasserie The Smith debuted the brew — called "The Smith East Village Ale" — this week to appeal to customers looking for something more unique than the usual bottled and draught beer.

The bar spent six month consulting with breweries, and ultimately decided to go with Brooklyn's Sixpoint Craft Ales because they thought the microbrewery was the most successful at catching The Smith’s flavor.

"I’m really happy it came out the way we were thinking," said The Smith bar owner Jeff Lefcourt.

"The style is a mix - it has a Pilsner quality, some sweetness of a pale ale, but also a spicy, aromatic quality. We love that (the brewery) is 10 minutes from here."

The ale has already won over a host of locals, including Urszula Redlich, who lives a few blocks from the bar in the East Village.

"It's good, I'd drink it again," Redlich said, adding, "I think it's very female-friendly," because it doesn't have the bitterness of an Indian Pale Ale.

Dan Gee, also of the West Village, said, "It's got a great kick to it. It's very distinct and I don't taste that in other beers."

The beer will be available year-round exclusively at The Smith, located at 55 Third Ave., and its sister restaurant, Jane, at 100 West Houston Street.
