MANHATTAN — An unidentified man is in serious condition after falling off the roof of a construction site onto a scaffold downtown on Wednesday, fire officials said.

The 40-year-old man fell about 10 feet off the roof of the site at 411 Pearl St. and Madison Street shortly after 10:30 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

The man fell one-story from the roof and apparently landed on a construction scaffold that was set up on the building's seventh floor, according to the FDNY.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he is listed in serious condition, according to the FDNY.

Department of Buildings records show that the New York City Educational Construction Fund owns the building, which is part of the Murry Bergtraum High School campus.

The department issued a building violation Thursday after the accident saying construction had continued at the site after contractors had already received a stop work order.
