INWOOD — A fire broke out Thursday afternoon on the second floor of an Inwood factory that makes jewelery pieces, FDNY and witnesses said.

FDNY arrived on the scene of the fire at the Magic Novelty Company at 308 Dyckman St. about 1:17 p.m. Firefighters had the small blaze under control by 1:30 p.m., they said. Nobody was injured in the fire.

A manager at the factory, Vance Foster, said that the fire was so small that workers were able to put it out before FDNY showed up. He said one of the reasons FDNY wanted to investigate the incident was because they have chemicals in the building. However, the second floor only has offices, Foster said.

FDNY did not immediately know the cause of the fire.
