MIDTOWN — Knicks fans were ecstatic Tuesday after hearing word that the team had worked out a trade for Carmelo Anthony.

"We're back, baby!" said Dujuan Mosley, 33, of Harlem.

News broke late Monday night that Anthony, a perennial all-star, was coming to Broadway in a multi-player trade between the Denver Nuggets and the Knicks. The move pairs Anthony with Knicks superstar Amar'e Stoudemire, giving New York two premiere players in their front court.

"I think it's good for New York, it's good for the Knicks, too," said Cheddi Douglas, 28, of Brooklyn. "It's exciting again, just like when the Knicks were playing the Bulls [in the early 1990s]."

One Lakers fan thought that the Knicks may have given up too much in the trade.

"They gave four out of their five starters away for one guy," said Robert Arroyo, 50, of Brooklyn. "Is Carmelo and Stoudemire gonna be there for them when they get ready two years down the road?"

Others agreed that with Anthony on the team, former Knicks fans will start to watch the games again.

"Everyone's sort of coming around now because we have a team," said Michael Tsvedos, 20, of Brooklyn.

Mosley said the move was "a real blessing, for us real true Knicks fans" who have endured a decade of embarrassment and losing seasons.

The price of Knicks tickets also jumped with word of the Anthony trade.

The New York Post reported that tickets for Wednesday's night's game against the Milwaukee Bucks at Madison Square Garden, where Anthony is expected to make his debut, have more than doubled on StubHub.com.
