ST. MARK'S PLACE — A small fire broke out in the basement wall between a Japanese restaurant and comic book store on St. Mark's Place on Thursday afternoon.

The fire department responded to the blaze at 11 St. Mark's Place just after 1:30 p.m. and had the fire under control in roughly half an hour, officials said.

"Of all the places in the universe, we are the most susceptible to water, fire, and smoke damage," said comic book store owner Mitch Cutler, who has owned St. Mark's Comics for 27 years.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear but no injuries were reported, fire officials said.
