TRIBECA — Drivers exiting the Holland Tunnel are no longer able to turn onto Hudson Street, thanks to water main construction nearby.

Crews started working at Exit 2 off the Holland Tunnel rotary Monday, just north of the intersection of Hudson Street and Ericsson Place. The work will last for several months, and during that time, cars are not allowed to turn right onto Hudson Street, the city Department of Design and Construction said.

During the first rush hour with the detour on Monday morning, traffic did not appear to back up much more than usual, a DDC spokesman said.

The construction is part of a five-year project on Hudson Street to connect the neighborhood’s water mains to the new Third Water Tunnel.

The project is scheduled to last until the middle of 2015.
