HARLEM — A 14-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after a mid-morning gunfight in East Harlem on Friday.

The unnamed victim was shot in the arm outside the Wagner Houses, on Second Avenue, at 9.30 a.m., police said.

Police said he was in stable condition at Harlem Hospital.

The shooter ran into the nearby Middle School 45, witnesses said. A Department of Education spokeswoman said police put the school on lockdown as they hunted him.

DNAinfo was told by students that  police told them to stay inside their classrooms until the lockdown was lifted at about 11 a.m.

Police said they were questioning two people Friday afternoon.

Residents said they heard gunshots and saw the injured teen running into the building at 2390 Second Ave.

He was brought out on a stretcher minutes later, witnesses said.

Tenants said there had been fights between young residents and youths from neighboring buildings recently.
