MANHATTAN — The rebuilt World Trade Center site will have 673 uniformed police officers assigned to it when it opens this Sept. 11, NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Tuesday.

The site will need the massive uniformed presence because of its continued presence as a terrorist target, Kelly said at an event for the Police Foundation, the Associated Press reported.

Additionally, Kelly named a deputy commissioner to create a security plan for the center's memorial service on the 10-year anniversary of the attacks, according to the AP.

The 9/11 memorial will open on Sep. 11, and the buildings on the site will open as they are completed.
