MANHATTAN — New York's three main airports remained closed on Monday due to the blizzard and caused many travelers extended headaches with canceled flights.

Twitter lit up with complaints from travelers who had been scheduled to fly in and out of New York, but, instead, were stuck.

John F. Kennedy Airport and Newark Airport announced on Monday afternoon that they would reopen for flights at 6 p.m., while LaGuardia Airport announced that it would open one runway for flights at 4 p.m.

"[W]hat a nightmare. JFK reopening at 6, our flight is still on time for 8pm, but roads to JFK are closed and airtrain isn't running," wrote Twitter user duckumu.

Others were getting frustrated with the lack of rescheduled flights into New York's airports, delaying their travel plans by multiple days.

"Flight from San Juan PR to JFK this AM cancelled; next flight not till the 31st. Wow. Anyone got any travel advice?," wrote user adrienneday.

Travelers hoping to get out of New York to warmer climates were writing to the airlines on Twitter for help with rebooking.

"Flight from JFK to St Thomas already cancelled for tomorrow morning. Help me @Delta, you're my only hope!" wrote Twitter user jakeschwartz.

American Airlines announced on Monday afternoon that all flights on both Monday and Tuesday were canceled through LaGuardia Airport.

"American Airlines is like that date that invites you out to dinner and just sends you a text an hour before to tell you she's not actually coming. And then, when you call her to reschedule or even just to find how what happened, she doesn't pick up the phone," said Manhattan resident Justin Stankiewicz, 26, who was desperately trying to get back to New York from Chicago.

"I was on hold with American from 3:30 to 7:30 this morning and they never came to the line," Stankiewicz said. "Luckily I was smart enough to book with a different carrier to Philadelphia for Tuesday because everyone I've been talking to isn't getting flights into New York until Thursday or Friday."
