EAST VILLAGE — It's getting pricey to live at the nexus of the universe.

An apartment on East First Street near First Avenue is asking a bank-breaking $30,000 per month in rent, possibly making it the most expensive rental property in neighborhood history, EV Grieve reported.

The three-bedroom unit at 38 East First St., which contains a library and ballroom, covers 5,000 square feet on a tree-lined block between First and Second avenues, according to a listing with real estate firm Prudential Douglas Elliman.

The apartment also includes 16-foot-high ceilings, Corinthian columns, maple floors and a sprawling 45-foot-long living room.

EV Grieve discovered the property, which has been on the market since September, noting it exceeds the $20,000 rents at the new 2 Cooper Square development that had been touted as the most expensive in the East Village.

But any potential tenants should expect some company, as a vacant lot across the street has become a haven for rats.

Some felt the apartment's location "in a tenement neighborhood" may throw off any prospective renters.

"Ya know what people want to see when the walk out the door of a $30K apartment?" wrote the commenter Bowery Boy on EV Grieve. "Central Park."
