FINANCIAL DISTRICT — The Fraunces Tavern restaurant will not reopen in time for Thanksgiving, the new managers said this week.

The Porterhouse Group, a Dublin-based company, took over the historic restaurant last spring and has been renovating it for the past eight months. The new managers had hoped to do a soft opening of the restaurant on Thanksgiving, but they did not finish the work in time.

"The official opening of The Porterhouse at Fraunces Tavern is yet to be determined," the restaurant said in an e-mail Thursday. "We are in our construction phase and hope to be open by December 3rd, 2010."

The landmarked Pearl Street building also houses the Fraunces Tavern Museum, which pays homage to the tavern’s role in the Revolutionary War: General George Washington bade farewell to his troops there in 1783.

Because of work on the restaurant, the museum has been closed temporarily. For updated information about the museum’s schedule, check its website.
