HAMILTON HEIGHTS — The man police have charged in the sexual assault and robbery of a Hamilton Heights woman last week is a convicted sex offender, the New York Post reports.
Lawrence Elliot, also of Hamilton Heights, allegedly forced his way into the 21-year-old City College student's apartment near St. Nicholas Park at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, threatening her with a gun and sexually assaulting her, according to the criminal complaint.
NYPD officials said that the victim was checking her mail when Elliot approached her from behind, the Post reported.
Elliot allegedly forced the victim to perform oral sex on him and then stole her ATM card, cell phone, iPod and credit card, according to the criminal complaint.
Police arrested Elliot after releasing a surveillance video from a convenience store where the attacker used the victim's ATM card. He was charged on Saturday with predatory sexual assault, criminal assault, criminal sex act, burglary, robbery, kidnapping, sexual abuse and criminal possession of stolen property.
The 47-year-old was convicted in 1993 of raping an 18-year-old girl at knifepoint in Syracuse, according the the Post. He reportedly served time for the crime.
