MIDTOWN WEST — New Yorkers are not shy about voicing their opinions — especially when it comes to saving them money.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office posted an online suggestion box on the city's website Monday, asking for money-saving ideas from anyone with an Internet connection.

On Tuesday, DNAinfo took the idea offline and hit the streets to ask New Yorkers in person for their recommendations.

"I think there's a lot of money spent on construction," said Sumeet Datt, 39, who lives in Queens. "They're constantly redoing the same roads every couple of years. I don't understand why they can't just do them right the first time around."

Others thought some popular city initiatives should never be pursued again.

"My suggestion would be to stop those stupid art installations, like those pianos that no one knew what to do with that they spent God knows how much money putting all over the city," said Upper West Sider Mindy Everett, 32, of the "Play Me, I'm Yours" project that came to the city this summer.

Born-and-raised New Yorker Anthony Picciano focused his suggestions on the luxuries afforded to elected officials.

"No more city cars. They should use their own cars," he said.

"During the French Revolution, all the aristocrats that stole money from the people were beheaded," Picciano added. "They should keep that in the back of their mind."
