MANHATTAN — The Manhattan District Attorney's office announced the formation of the Public Ingrity Unit on Tuesday, which will be dedicated to rooting out corruption in all areas of government.

In addition to proactively investigating such malfeasance as bribery, election fraud and criminal violations of state and city ethics laws, the unit will oversee the new Public Corruption Hotline, where New Yorkers can call in to report wrongdoing by public officials.

"Self-serving criminal activity among public employees at all levels severely undermines the public's confidence in our government,” said District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr in a statement. "The new Public Integrity Unit reaffirms this Office's long tradition of rooting out corruption at all levels."

The new hotline can be reached at 212-335-8987.
