MANHATTAN — Faced with a $3 billion budget gap for the fiscal year starting in July, the mayor's office is implementing a creative problem-solving technique: asking New Yorkers for their suggestions.

An online suggestion box appeared on the city's website Monday, soliciting feedback from anybody with an Internet connection on how to save New York City money.

"If you have ideas for finding efficiencies in government, submit them today," the site reads.

The online suggestion box, called "Save NYC Money," states that "ideas will be reviewed by staff at the Mayor's Office for creativity and potential savings," and the best recommendations "will be sent to the appropriate agency or agencies for further study or for implementation."

The mayor's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the plan. The site says a summary of the ideas will be posted online.
