UPPER EAST SIDE — A fire broke out at an Upper East Side brownstone Thursday evening as workers were renovating the building, fire officials said.
Crews were soldering the facade of 5 East 63rd St. between the six-story building's third and fourth floors when the blaze erupted and spread inside just after 5:30 p.m., an FDNY official at the scene said.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire in about 15 minutes, officials said.
Bonnie Evans, who lives on the sixth floor of the building and called 911, said she knew something was wrong when her cat started scurrying around.
"I wasn't scared because I didn't see flames, but knew we should get out of the building," she said.
There were no injuries, the FDNY said.
