MANHATTAN — Mayor Michael Bloomberg is the latest New York celebrity to stand up and speak up in a new commercial series supporting same-sex marriage.

"I'm Mayor Mike Bloomberg. I'm a New Yorker, and I support marriage equality," he says in the testimonial-style video, emphasizing lawful separation between church and state.

"Because government shouldn't tell you who to love, or who to marry."

The campaign that invites viewers to join New Yorkers for Marriage Equality is also supported by figures Rev. Al Sharpton and "Top Chef" judge Tom Colicchio, as well as actors Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, Mark Ruffalo, Whoopi Goldberg, Fran Drescher and Kyra Sedgwick, DNAinfo reported.

Featuring Alicia Keys' megahit "Empire State of Mind," the Human Rights Campaign seeks support from the New York community in order to get a same-sex marriage bill passed in Senate this year.

Other ads by Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ash, Julianne Moore and Kenneth Cole can already be seen on the HRC website.
