EAST HARLEM — A high school on East 116th Street was temporarily evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out in a cafeteria garbage can, fire officials said.

Administrators at the Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics, on Pleasant Avenue and East 116th Street, said nobody was injured in the blaze but declined to comment further.

The trash can was removed from the school and students were evacuated before firefighters arrived just after 12:30 p.m., FDNY sources said.

Students and teachers were let back into the school after about 10 minutes, according to students outside the building.
