MANHATTAN FEDERAL COURT — A Long Island man charged with funneling money from Pakistan to finance Faisal Shahzad's attempt to blow up Times Square was arrested and released on bail, federal prosecutors said Wednesday.

Mohammad Younis, 44, was among several accomplices who allegedly accepted "tens of thousands of dollars" in the United States from Pakistan, prosecutors said.

The cash originally came from members of the Tehrik-e-Taliban, a Pakistani terror group that backed Shahzad's failed attack. Younis passed that money to Shahzad in an illegal money transfer in April, prosecutors said.

The charges were outlined in an indictment unsealed Wednesday. Younis' accomplices were not named.

Shahzad, 31, a former financial analyst from Connecticut turned Islamic extremist, pleaded guilty in June to planting a car bomb in a Nissan Path Finder at West 45th Street and Broadway.

Younis was charged with two counts of unlicensed money transmission. He is not charged with participating in the attack.

He was released on his signature Wednesday but most post a $100,000 personal recognizance bond. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
