MANHATTAN — Police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of a man just down the street from NYPD headquarters early Wednesday morning.

Anthony Evans, 28, a resident of South Street in the Alfred E. Smith Houses, was discovered with gunshot wounds to the head, arm and torso about 3 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred at 47 Madison Street, a building that is also a part of the Smith Houses complex and is just blocks from One Police Plaza.

The suspect has been identified as Pierre Hecker, 29, of 1295 Fifth Avenue in East Harlem, NYPD sources said.

He is described at standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 180 pounds, police said.
