MANHATTAN — Nicole John blogged about her penchant for drinking heavily and popping pills before a tragic misstep led to her death at a luxury Midtown apartment building Friday morning.
John was physically beautiful with a wealthy family, talent and a bright future that was supposed to continue at Parsons School for Design this fall. But the 17-year-old also talked extensively about her depression, drinking and pill popping on her blog called "melancholysouls," which was taken down early Saturday.
"Whaaaaaat a f--kin' EPIC weekend. Intoxication for about 40 hours straight, starting Friday night," she wrote on her blog two weeks ago. "I never use the word epic, but it is actually appropriate this time."
With the help of a Brazilian fake ID, John was out partying at the Meatpacking District club Tenjune until 2 a.m. before going back to a 34th Street luxury apartment with over a dozen people for an after hours party, police said.
During the party John apparently slipped off her shoes and clambered out on to a narrow ledge outside the 25th story window shortly after 4 a.m., then fell to her death, police said.
Sadly, the drunken night out on the town did not appear unusual for John, who was the daughter of Eric John, the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand.
"Friday night went to a house party and played beer pong, etc, got shwasted/cross-faded," she wrote on her blog on July 20.
"So f--king drunk. And it's so f--king great," she wrote in another post. "I remember one time I was shwasted and I apparently tried to smoke a french fry."
John vacationed in famed Thai hotspot Koh Samui this summer and partied at several upscale Manhattan night clubs, the Daily News reported. Getting into the clubs despite her youthful appearance wasn't a problem for the ambassador's daughter, who bragged about it on her blog.
"I have a Brazilian ID that was made here in NYC and it's really good, it's never been rejected."
John also wrote about her depression and prescription pills she took for it.
"So I was down in the slumps, in the pits. But now I popped two Xanax's so I'm goooooood to go," she wrote in May. "Three cheers for medication!"
She also wrote about mixing pills with alchohol on more than one occasion.
"Vodka/redbulls + long island ice teas + ambiens + xanax = om nom nom (delicious)," she blogged in May.
In July she wrote about drinking and popping Xanax during a night out eating sushi with friends.
"For future reference, xanax and vodka do not mix," she wrote.
John quoted philospher Thomas Hobbes, poet Sylvia Plath and, in an sadly ironic twist, an eerie passage by novelist Kurt Vonnegut on her blog.
"I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over," the 17-year-old beauty wrote. "Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center."
