MANHATTAN — Jennifer Aniston and Jon Stewart yukked it up on "The Daily Show" Thursday night over an Italian meal they shared downtown about 15 years ago.

As Stewart remembered it, he had asked the then up-and-coming Aniston on a date, which Aniston went to with several friends in tow.

“I remember thinking wow she’s so excited to be on a date with me she wants me to get to know her posse," Stewart joked.

But the former "Friends'" star said that she recalled it a more of a group thing.

"If I remember correctly, wasn't it sort of like, 'Hey, a group of us are going out, do you want to join?'" Aniston recalled.

The talk show host took the differing memories in stride, saying graciously, "You were lovely then and lovely now."

And, never one to avoid some form of politics for too long, Stewart brought up the specter of the proposed mosque near Ground Zero when Aniston mentioned that she wished she lived in New York.

"If you want, there’s a new Burlington Coat factory that’s available to be rented," he joked in reference to the controversial plan to build the Islamic center at the site of the old factory, two blocks from Ground Zero.
