MANHATTAN — High-end department store Bergdorf Goodman is trying to keep out the bedbugs by enlisting the help of a critter-sniffing dog, according to media reports.
The Fifth Avenue store hasn't had any reports of bedbugs but wanted to stay ahead of the city's infestation problem, a spokesperson told the Daily News.
"The anxiety level is clearly high in New York. It seemed important to go the extra mile," Ginger Reeder, vice president of corporate communications, told the paper.
Enter a bedbug-sniffing beagle who has been patrolling the store after hours in recent weeks and will continue to do so until the city-wide problem subsides, the News reported.
Bedbugs have been multiplying across the city in recent years. Other Manhattan retailers, including Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister have had to close temporarily to handle infestations.
