MANHATTAN — Canadian rockers Arcade Fire proved a big hit at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday and Thursday nights, earning praise from concertgoers across the Web.

Normally too-cool-for-school hipsters had downright rhapsodic reactions to the shows.

"I never thought in a million years I would say this.....but Arcade Fire at MSG was one of the best things I've seen in years,” one witness commented on the music blog Brooklyn Vegan. “I am still reeling and still thinking about how f—ing amazing it was."

Another commenter added, “Beyond incredible show, best live act touring currently.”

The response from the Twitter-verse proved equally effusive.

“Last night proved that @ArcadeFire is one of the most important bands of our generation,” tweeted Stylecaster CEO Ari S. Goldberg.

“Favorite musical experience of my life thus far,” tweeted another fan, Penny Hardman.

Adding to the multimedia vibe of the event, Terry Gilliam directed a series of webcasts of the show. The filmmaker and “Monty Python” alum posted a number of the songs from the performance on YouTube along with backstage interview with band members Tim Kingsbury, Will Butler and Richard Reed Perry.

But not everyone was so enthused.

Top aide to Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Hillary Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson tweeted, “Sorry -- Spoon was better than Arcade Fire last night. And if you are headlining The Garden you should play more than 90 minutes.”
