MANHATTAN — Since the East Village is often considered the nightlife capital of New York City — if not the universe — it’s no surprise that two neighborhood bars were recently named the best in the world.

Death & Co., the low-lit cocktail lounge on East Sixth Street, took home top honors at a New Orleans-based cocktail convention that bestows awards on the world’s best watering holes, the Village Voice reported.

Death & Co. received nods for Best American Cocktail Bar and World’s Best Cocktail Bar at the “Tales of the Cocktail” event last week, beating out bars in London and Belfast.

The tequila bar Mayahuel, also on East Sixth Street, received the World’s Best New Cocktail Bar title, edging out pubs in Queens, New Orleans and San Francisco, the paper reported.
