MANHATTAN — Overstuffed steak sandwiches, cupcakes piled high with frosting and flaming grills filled the plaza at Rockefeller Center as thousands flocked to the annual Taste of Summer Event on Wednesday.

Midtown favorites Brasserie Ruhlmonn, Bill's Burgers and Cucina & Co. did a brisk outdoor trade, with lines snaking into 49th Street.

"We work right over at 75 Rock and we came out here for Bill's cheeseburger," said Alison Yobage, 37, an Upper West Side resident. "It's almost as good as Shake Shack."

She said her colleagues were headed for the cupcakes at the Magnolia Bakery stand.

Midtown workers wolfed down burgers and hot dogs in business wear while tourists lingered and grazed at local favorites like Mendy's Kosher Deli and the Liberty Deli, as well as chains including 'Wichcraft, Au Bon Pain and Manchu Wok.

"This is great, they should do this more often," said Joseph Marinelli, 64, from Staten Island. "I'm meeting so many people. The steak and onions from AJ Maxwells was great, the egg roll from Manchu Wok was great."

Marinelli said he was supposed to be watching his diet, and planned to stop after the egg roll.

"Does this stomach look like it wants to try anything else?"
