MIDTOWN EAST — Police released video Friday of the so-called "geezer thief," who shot up a Midtown suit store during a failed robbery last week.

Surveillance footage did not provide a clear image of the gun-wielding senior, but police said he was in his 60's or 70's, carrying a cane, with breathing tubes descending from his nose.

He escaped in a black Cadillac CTS with Alabama plates, police noted.

The incident occurred at 7:30 p.m., shortly before closing time, at Sarar Men's Store on Madison Avenue and 46th Street, police said.

The man appeared to be shopping for clothes, but soon pulled out a silver revolver and demanded cash from the store manager, according a store employee.

He fired three rounds at the manager, missing him each time, Police said. However, one bullet went through seven suits, sized 42 wide, a Sarar clerk said.

"He didn't even attempt to take the money," the clerk, who was not there at the time but heard about the incident from co-workers, said Tuesday. "I just hope he doesn't come back here."

The suspect, described as 6 foot 2, wore a red shirt, eyeglasses and a dark colored baseball cap, according to police.

He also carried a black bag believed to contain an oxygen tank, police said.

However, Sarar employees had their own theories about the bag, which was connected to the breathing tubes.

"We think it was a decoy," a clerk said. "Who would think someone with breathing tubes would rob the store?"
