MANHATTAN — A second terror attack, this one targeting restaurants and nightclubs in New York City, might have been planned for the 2009 holiday season, FOX News reported Friday.

"The final target of the attack was not known, but extremist members had allegedly discussed restaurants and night clubs located in New York City," an FBI report dated Dec. 4, 2009 warned, according to the news channel. "The extremists allegedly discussed conducting the attack on 25 December, to coincide with the Christmas holiday."

A terror attack was attempted on that day, when a Nigerian citizen, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, allegedly tried to ignite a bomb on an airplane that was flying over Detroit. The device did not fully detonate and the attempted terrorist was apprehended by crew and passengers.

The unidentified group preparing for an alleged attack on the Big Apple had plans to smuggle the device on a cargo plane from Nairobi, Kenya, to London, England, according to the report cited by FOX news.

The explosive would then be transferred to a plane heading for New York and then handed off to a Somali man living in the city, who was identified only as "Mohammed," the news channel reported.

FBI spokesmen told FOX they were not able to say what became of the report, nor were they aware of any evidence to suggest that information contained in it was credible, the network said.
