INWOOD — Move over Washington Heights — Inwood is ready for its close up.

The far away and often-misidentified neighborhood atop Manhattan is now the setting of a comedic Web series written by four Inwood residents.

And the creators of "In the 'Wood" want viewers to know, Inwood is not part of it's northern neighbor, Washington Heights — which played the starring role in the hit musical "In the Heights" — and it is definitely not in the Bronx.

The show premiered Sunday night to a full house at Piper’s Kilt restaurant on Broadway after months of writing and shooting, and a lot of help from Inwood residents and local business owners.

"A lot of people helped us pull it together," said J. Holtham, 36, one of four writers for the show.

Writers Clare Drobot, 28, Scott Keating, 38, and Tom Matthew Wolfe, 39, also collaborated on the show.

"It was definitely D.I.Y.," Drobot said of the "do it yourself" style of creating the show.

"In the ‘Wood" follows the lives of five Inwood resident’s travails and triumphs through humorous pokes at the clichés and realities of life in the Northern Manhattan enclave while tackling issues like gentrification and culture clashes.

"It’s a show about make-ups, break-ups, family, friends, lovers, and bookies," the show’s Web site reads. "It’s a show about bachata music, hot summer New York City nights, and half air conditioned day drinkin’ Sundays. It’s a show about getting by in New York."

"One of the things I’ve learned is that we are all individually connected by philosophy and spirit of life," Drobot said.

Zaida Grunes, 38, author of Inwood blog Manhattan’s Peak, said she was excited to watch the launch at the Kilt.

Her favorite part of the new show? Inwood.

"I love that Inwood is a character, not just location/scenery," Inwood blogger Grunes wrote in a direct message on Twitter.
