MANHATTAN — Acting legend Al Pacino could have been mistaken for a vagrant Monday night at the 2010 Public Theater Gala.

The 70-year-old Oscar winner, who wore shades and a red bandana as he entered the event, might have blamed his unkempt appearance on his role as Shylock in Shakespeare in the Park's production of "The Merchant of Venice."

But Pacino actually looked more presentable as he appeared onstage during the show's curtain call.

Many other members of New York's theater elite were in attendance, most happy to dress down for the gala, which was held at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park on the first day of summer.

"American Beauty" actor Kevin Spacey turned up, along with "Law and Order" great Sam Waterston, who appeared to have broken the record for bushiest eyebrows grown. "Friends" star David Schwimmer also showed.

Even seductress Amanda Peet looked off in a pair of lopsided shoulder pads.

Luckily, knock-out acting couple Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber were on hand to provide some eye candy, along with "Charlie's Angel" Lucy Liu, "Grey's Anatomy" vixen Kate Walsh and "Scrubs" funnyman Zach Braff.

Downtown, hunky actors Edward Norton and Ethan Hawke turned out for the 11th Annual Friends of the High Line Party and Summer Dinner, where the heartthrobs proved that they were also friends of the camera.

And comedian Louis C.K. hit the big apple for the premiere of his new film "Louie" at Caroline's on Broadway.

He was joined by "SNL" star Bill Hader and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" jokester Jeff Garlin.
