GRAMERCY — A fire broke out on the roof of a brownstone building on East 26th Street Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

No one was injured in the blaze, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the FDNY said.

Witnesses reported seeing smoke and flames from the roof of the three-story brownstone at 127 E. 26th St. around 10:30 a.m.

Mariusz Rutkowski, 38, a construction worker who was working at a building across from the brownstone initially thought "a small newspaper" caught on fire. "It started to get bigger and bigger.

Firefighters closed the block to traffic, and the blaze was brought under control at 11 a.m., the FDNY said.
