FLATIRON — Academy Award-winning actress — and ping pong enthusiast — Susan Sarandon has signed up Mayor Michael Bloomberg at her Flatiron table tennis club.

The "Thelma & Louise" star, who launched SPiN New York last year after discovering a subculture of ping pong and has her friends Ed Norton and George Clooney as members, is holding the Mayor's Cup Table Tennis Championship at the club at 23rd Street and Park Avenue.

More than 100 participants have already entered.

“New York City is ready to serve up another fantastic sporting event,” said the Mayor. “We’re eager to kick it off with a positive spin.”

Sarandon said, “Table tennis has grown in popularity over the years and we’re excited to see the momentum has penetrated throughout the city and beyond.

The Flatiron District tournament will feature four divisions: Open Singles, Collegiate Singles, Senior Singles and Parent-Child Doubles.
