MANHATTAN — Heiress Ivanka Trump cringed as she received a peck on the cheek from Rupert Murdoch on Monday night.

The unlikely duo was photographed at the Costume Institute Gala Benefit to celebrate the opening of the 'American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity' exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The annual event  — one of New York's most anticipated — was attended by a bevy of the world's most beautiful people, along with the world's most powerful. All of them were dressed in the world's least beautiful clothes.

Actress and New York socialite Chloe Sevigny, looked like she stole her neckline from the set of "Big Love," the Showtime series in which she portrays a Mormon polygamist.

Actress Rosario Dawson also took the costume theme a bit too far, apparently attending the affair dressed as a Hostess pastry.

"30 Rock" star Tina Fey looked far more presentable, as she pulled off a shoulderless zip-up onsie, while Jessica Alba looked statuesque as usual in a pink satin gown.

But actors Jude Law and Sienna Miller gave Alba a run for her money in the competition for most insanely attractive attendee. The formerly engaged pair made perhaps their most public appearance as a couple since Law was caught having an affair with his children's nanny in 2005.

Crazily hot married people/musicians Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani along with quarterback Tom Brady and model Gisele Bündchen were also in the running.

Actors Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber were disqualified by Watts' dress, which featured a bow larger than her head.
